This 225-amp, 277/480-volt four-pole automatic transfer switch is engineered for commercial and light industrial facilities running higher-voltage three-phase electrical systems. The 4-pole configuration switches the neutral conductor along with the three phase conductors — making it the right choice for separately derived systems where neutral switching is required by code or the engineer of record. It handles emergency, legally required, and optional standby circuits, and is designed to work directly with a standby generator for fully automatic power transfer when utility power fails.
The switch operates electrically and latches mechanically in both the normal and standby positions. Break-before-make action is enforced at both the mechanical and electrical level, so the utility and generator can never be connected simultaneously. Not service rated — requires upstream overcurrent protection.
Features & Benefits
PC40-11 Controller The PowerCommand PC40-11 is a microprocessor-based controller with a backlit LCD and soft-touch navigation buttons. It can be configured at the front panel or from a connected PC, making initial setup and field adjustments straightforward. Standard communication includes both Modbus RTU and TCP, and the onboard I/O is configurable to fit a wide range of application requirements. A programmable exercise scheduler automates routine generator test runs without requiring manual intervention.
Voltage Imbalance Sensing Goes beyond basic over/under voltage monitoring to detect unbalanced conditions across all three phases on either source — catching power quality issues that could damage sensitive equipment downstream.
Phase Rotation Monitoring Verifies correct phase sequence on both sources. Particularly valuable at initial generator commissioning or after service work, preventing a transfer to a generator that's wired out of sequence.
4-Pole Switching Switches all three phase conductors plus the neutral simultaneously, making this unit suitable for separately derived systems where full isolation between sources is required.
High-Endurance Contact Assembly Silver alloy main contacts under high closing pressure resist wear and maintain low resistance over thousands of operations. Dedicated arcing contacts absorb switching damage so the main contacts stay clean. A layered arc chute assembly extinguishes arcs rapidly after each transfer. UL 1008 certified — contacts included — for high-endurance duty over the full service life of the unit.
NEMA 1 Indoor Enclosure A clean, compact indoor enclosure suitable for electrical rooms, mechanical spaces, and similar protected indoor locations. A removable protective cover allows visual inspection without exposing personnel to live components.
Field Expandable Optional field-installed kits allow the unit to grow with project requirements — no need to upsize at the time of purchase. Available options include a remote annunciator, standby load shedding, integral control power supply, Ethernet/Modbus TCP communication module, anticondensation heater, and auxiliary output contact expansion modules (8 or 16 configurable contact sets).
